LOCKED AWAY
27th of May 2005,
A shocked young women was caught by surprise
Leaving Australia bound for a Bali resort
Arrested at the airport, a smuggler was caught
Schapelle Leigh Corby, would go once a year
No fear of the police. The laws are very clear
The penalties are harsh, often sentenced to death
For any quantity of drugs, was cause for arrest
Planning to stay with her brother and his wife
They own a surf shop a good quality of life
Her plans didn’t go as she hoped on that day in May
She was met at the airport then taken away
They found 4 kilos of dope stuffed in a clear plastic bag
Why would she put it there? She must have been mad!
She knows the death sentence is often carried out
She insists on her innocence, nothing she could say would bring about
The change that was needed to set her free
The trail was a circus, a total media spree
Labeled as a criminal, then padlocked in a ceil
Her life was no more; she was trapped in this hell
She was forced to sign papers she couldn’t even read
The courts wanted the death sentence to be carried out with speed
The public outcry was heard around the globe
Her innocence obvious, use your frontal lode
Bali is a place that has the best green
So why take dope there, the idea is obscene
Anybody with half a brain, would even try
Dope over there is in endless supply
It sells for less than half, of what you pay for it here
A simply bribed could have made the charges disappear
But believing her innocence and in justice for all
No lawyers, no translators no one telephone call
Human rights removed from this unsavory place
The court rooms a joke, their investigation a disgrace
Forced to plead guilty to save her on skin
Twenty years was her sentence, naivety her sin
Six years have passed and she pleads her innocence
Her mind, body and soul, broken! No resilience.
16 years of her sentence still left to serve
For crime she didn’t commit!
A punishment she doesn’t deserve!
